Mykonos
Mykonos was once a nudists' paradise.
It is now chancy to say the least. It's a lively island, well known
for many years as a meeting place for the gay community. The inflow
of more and more textiles means that if naturism is your priority it is hard to
recommend Mykonos these days, particularly in high season. By way of
example, one contributor who visited in August 2006 said
"We have had our holiday crowded out by partying young people ... very
noisy. Only Paranga beach tolerated nudity. In July /August prudes
rule. We were made to feel unwelcome on most other beaches."
However it's
fair to say that this is not a universally held view. For example,
contributions from 2001 summed up the position thus:
"Unless you
are homophobe, or want to be alone, go to Mykonos!"
And another correspondent
says
"I highly disagree with your description of this beach and this island.
I found the naturist possibilities better here than on many of the other islands
I have visited."
Some reports suggest that the situation may be "not as bad" as in some
previous years. So, please make your own judgement.
Paradise Beach
See Paradise Beach on Google Maps
Once one
of the most famous nude beaches in the Aegean. You can get there easily by
boat from Platy Yialos. It used to be said that nudity was the norm and
that anyone wearing a bathing costume looked out of place. Maybe so, once.
Not any more.
The Mykonos scene is
changing. Paradise, of which we have fond memories - is now totally textile
and should be avoided unless you like loud beat music. A report from July
1996 described Paradise Beach as more like a rock concert than a beach, intensely
crowded. Full of beer swilling young people. The clothes optional crowd, although
seeming a little uncomfortable, were certainly tolerated in this atmosphere
of wild abandon. The beach is best if you're in a party mood. Peace and quiet
there is none.
Except that ... well, a report from
May 1999 says that Paradise was not quite as bad as my report suggested, 25%
nudist. The west end seemed OK so we collected two sun beds and had an enjoyable
afternoon, more so when nobody came for money for the beds. Next morning
my contributors went to Delos (very much worth a visit), and to Paradise in
the afternoon. Again they had two free beds and we thought Mykonos was going
to be expensive. However my correspondent was aware of an unpleasant attitude
(not specified any more clearly) from some on the beach on the second day.
More encouraging reports have started
to come in 2000 and 2001 - a report from May 2000 describes Paradise beach
as not as bad as its reputation and a lovely CO beach with 40% nude.
A June 2000 report agrees that the beach is not as bad as described; it has
a strong nudist end on the west end of the beach, about 50 nudists, families
and couples 20 - 40 years old, also a few nudists on the other end of the
beach, in the middle of the beach: tropicana bar with awful noise (some
people call it "music" or "techno"), in this part mostly very young visitors
but everybody textile My correspondent's rating for the west end of the beach:
70 %. A report from August 2000 says that my contributor was the only nudist
in Paradise, and a report from September 2000 indicates no nudism there at
all and gives it a rating of just 10%. But a report from early July
2001 sas there were nudists at both ends, but
there's a new hotel
being built at that end with a swimming pool, overlooking the nude area, so
things are likely to change in the very near future.
A report from June 2001 says that about
three-quarters of the beach is textile with naturists at the western end. Some gays
but low profile. Beach very good and enjoyable day out . Tolerance and good
atmosphere. This changes about 4pm when happy hour begins in the beach
bars. They pump up the volume to levels unendurable to anyone over 30, but
heck 4pm - enough sun by then.
In July 2001 on the west end more than
50% of the people were naked (this applied also in the area with sunbeds),
around 50 persons all in all. The beach is big and so the percentage naked
on the beach were low. Anyway, my contributors found this beach very good.
Their children, who didn't want to be naked, went with them without complaining.
My contributor observed that to find naturist beaches on other islands you
often had to walk a long distance to come to a beach that was less attractive
than the others (true sometimes, says the Captain, but certainly not always).
Here you were only meters from the bus stop, a lovely beach with sunbeds
and you could dress as you liked.
A report from September 2003 said Paradise was a very nice beach,
larger and not so crowded as Paranga. A good mix of textiles and
naturists, with very little, if any segregation. Taverna, bars toilets at
rear of beach. All of these amenities plus the beach kept spotless with
any litter being removed at all times. My contributors were told that a
disco is held each day from approx 4.30 to 6.00 every day from middle of
July to the middle of September, with a "crazy" DJ blowing his whistle and
driving everybody mad, according to one report.
Add to that reports of a new beach club and ... well, not promising I
fear.
One report from July 2005 says that 20% of the beach (the far right
section) was nudist. Another visitor in the same month could see no
nudists. And a report from August 2007 found only 4 nude people.
A report from summer 2006 suggests Paradise Camping is a good
accommodation experience, cleaner and better run than Mykonos Camping.
They also said techno music and uni crowd were the main idea at Paradise
these days. My contributors were at Paradise a few years before and said
there was much less nudity now. On previous visits they felt comfortable
walking out of camp area naked carrying towels and suncream, etc. to go
sunbathe on beach, but not now. They said there is still some nudity,
perhaps 10%, and no one would mind, just the others would not do it
themselves.
Super Paradise
See Super Paradise on Google Maps
Also changing.
It is widely known as the gay nudist beach. In the past it seemed to be
divided into three areas: the gay part, where everyone was nude, but everyone
was male and in couples. Then there was the textile part at the other end
near the taverna. In the middle was a strip populated by mixed sex nudist
couples. It was worth it, if only for the experience. A visitor there in
1997 described it to me as not bad, but it has become a 'discovered' CO beach
and there
were more clothed tourists looking for nude bodies to watch than nudists.
Beach was 25% nude during a stay in summer 1997. Taverna is extraordinary!
An even more depressing report which
reaches me from the summer of 1998 suggests that it appears to be losing its
gay character - the right hand end, traditionally for the lesbians, has now
almost a family character - however there is still a good nudist scatter
along the beach, but for how much longer ....
But a report from June 2000, supported
by another from September 2000, once again reports gays and lesbians especially
on the west end of the beach, everybody is nude there, in the middle the
beach is CO, there were mixed couples in the centre of the beach.
Relationship Nudes : Textiles 50:50, the whole beach was very crowded, but
nevertheless a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. Age of the fans of this beach:
20 - 30 y.o. My correspondent's rating: 75 %. It proved a rather
long walk from the bus station near Paradise Beach to Super Paradise, the
caiques didn't go very often in these first days of June.
Another correspondent visited in July
2000, and says that Super Paradise was fun and diverse, with nude gays to
the right and hetero nudists more in the center. The line is not absolute,
and everyone seems to mix well. About 70% of the center and right side
of the beach were nude on the days that we were there. The Taverna and
bar a great and at about 6:30pm the music turns up and impromptu beach party
follows!
But a report from August 2000 says
Super Paradise was notable for its dreadful and dreadfully loud music and
the absence of nudism. Oh dear!
A report from June 2001 suggests a
return to the more traditional pattern: plentiful gays at at western
end, there is a mixed nude section somewhere middle then textile. The
gays seem happy enough left to themselves but with a young child felt more
comfortable nearer middle. No problems and again a reasonable atmosphere.
In June 2001 at the west end there were around 50 naked men,1 or 2 naked
women. The other four-fifths of the beach was textile.
A report from early August 2003 described Super paradise as a gorgeous
beach with about 15% people nude and bathing on all areas of the beach,
well worth visiting.
One rather depressing report from June 2004 says naturism was pretty
much a lost cause on both Paradise and Super, with the few that were
present at the western end of both beaches. Even toplessness was
rare.
However a (straight) couple who visited in September 2004 found no
problem being nude at Super Paradise. But, as an American heterosexual
man, with his wife - he found himself to be the centre of attention.
The left side of the beach (closest to the Coco Club) was the predominant
naturist section of the beach - again almost 100% gay couples, mixed nude
and clothed. The rest of the beach was almost completely textile with some
topless women.
A Barefoot reporter who visited in September 2006 found it totally full
of textiles. Even at the "nudist" end 80% of the gay couples were
clothed. Our Barefooter found it uncomfortable to be a nudist and
left after about an hour. A similar report came in during high
season 2007 - of some 2000 people on the beach my reporter reckoned about
8 were nude, and there were about 20 topless women. Oh dear.
Elia
See Elia on Google Maps
Recent reports suggest that the gays
have moved to Elia. I once described this as easily the best naturist beach
we found on Mykonos. It is past Super Paradise. You can get there by boat
from Platy Yialos but it's easier to take the bus from Mykonos Town. Head left from where the boat stops to the end where most of the nudists congregate. A report
from July 1997 described this as a first class beach. It now has an "extraordinary"
taverna. My correspondent was disappointed that only about 25% of the beach
was totally nude, another 15% topless. A report from August 1999 says that
the end where the boat stops was nude, with gay men and few women; the rest
was topless; however it was not crowded.
According a more recent report, Elia
has a substantial nudist end, though new developments may curtail this.
According to a report from September
1999 the Elia beach on the Mykonos island is divided in two parts. The commercial
part with the tavern and the chairs has no nudism, to the right when facing
the sea, you pass a little mount of rocks and there is a nice 99% nudist beach.
The sand and the water was nice. My correspondnt rated it 90%. A report
from June 2000 confirms this and rated it even higher.
A report from July 2000 describes Elia
as a beautiful beach, much less crowded than Super Paradise. Mostly
naturist at end where ferry comes in. Mix of gay and straight, as
is the norm in Mykonos. On our visit 90% were nude at this end of the beach.
What was especially nice is that there was waiter/waitress service in the
nudist section, perfect on a hot day! My correspondent rated it 90%.
A report from May 2000 reports that
the end opposite the taverna was 90% nude, almost all gay males. It's pretty
crowded but nudity is the norm.
However, a much more depressing report
from August 2000 says that end which was supposed to be nudist had also
been encroached upon by rows of deckchairs and umbrellas. Clothed people
gradually ventured further out by mid-morning into the nudist end, sometimes
pulling sunbeds along with them. By midday, only the very far corner of the
beach was nudist. A few middle-aged gays and lesbians, really squeezed against
the rocks, so that most nudists had taken refuge in tiny uncomfortable spaces
between some sharp rocks beyond the end of the beach and looked completely
and utterly miserable. Oh dear!

In June 2001, on the west end of the
beach there are some small rocks and west of the rocks there was a beach with
about 50% nude,70-80% men (around 20 nude persons). This is were the boats
come in. East of the rocks on the main beach there were also a few nude (around
5 people), they used the sunbeds and were scattered over the whole west
half of the beach.
A couple who visited in September
2001 found the small beach past the rocks 100% nude but were put off by overt
gay sexual activity.
A contributor who visited in August 2003 was very disappointed that
this beach had changed dramatically from 5 years ago. Both the main part
of beach and smaller area beyond rocks were almost exclusively textile
after midday though more nude earlier. Also predominantly exhibitionist
gay. The first 20ft of the beach was swamped by a tidal wave early
afternoon from the Highspeed ferry, which was a big shock to those on a
day trip but apparently a regular occurrence.
But another couple who visited in August 2003 found Elia a very good
beach for nude bathing about with about 50% people nude. Most of
these were gays but they kept themselves to themselves.
A report from October 2003 (when boats were still running from Plati
Gialos) said there were sunbeds on the right half of the beach, as seen
from the sea - there was no one there, no one asking for a fee for using
the sun beds. One nude girl on one of the sun beds towards the middle of
the beach. Left part, far enough from the restaurant at the right hand
end, so you will not be disturbed by noisy music: Some rocks give shelter
from the wind, here and further left nudist and non nudist couples and
singles - don't care about the non nudists. After a short walk over the
rocks you'll find a very small, sheltered beach - nude gays as well as non
nudists girls. My contributor says Elias is still the place to go if you
want to have the original Mykonos feeling!
A report from October 2004 says this was an excellent beach whilst my
contributors were there. The area from where the boats come in to the
taverna was empty and only the nudist section was populated. Needless to
say, it was excellent, no-one came to collect the money for the sun-beds
so that was free. The only non-nudist they saw was the young radio
waitress who comes along and takes your order for food and drink from the
taverna, she radios ahead and your required order promptly turns up a few
minutes later - very civilised. No hassle from anyone. There again, it all
depends when you go to these beaches, the first week in October is the end
of the holiday season and that is whey the beaches were virtually empty
all round the island, and the boats were not running because of the sea
conditions. The beach was one of the best we have been on, gentle sloping
beach to the water, warm water and just small waves lapping up the clear
sand. All in all, I would rate this beach in October as 100%.
Barefooters who were there in June and September 2006 took the
hour or so taxi boat trip from Ornos to Elia, and found a very long beach,
no music or dancing, just peace and quiet. It got very busy, mostly gay
down the left side (but comfortable, and no visible activity), and
virtually all nude, but we did see male/female couples, and some textiles.
there are 2 huge tavernas, and in June you do get a waiter/waitress
walking up and down the whole beach taking orders, but not in late
September/October, so take some snacks & water to avoid the long walk
along to the tavernas. The umbrellas and were being laid out in June, and
were being removed by the end of September. The boats were still going
near the end of the season, (early October) and even not getting to the
beach till 11.15 am it was still fairly empty, as the first bus from town
didn't arrive till 11.30. My contributors highly recommend this beach as
Paradise Beach is one huge party by mid afternoon, and Super Paradise was
reportedly strewn with litter, and was also a bit noisy with 2 bars trying
to out do each other with music.
Between Elia and Agrari, two other,
smaller beaches are said to be 100% nude: the one closer to Agrari is very
small. A June 2001 correspondent could only find one such beach, 100
meters west of Elia, with about 10 nude men.
Agrari
See Agrari on Google Maps
Fifteen minutes walk west of Elia along
a good path is Agrari. A correspondent who visited in 1996 described
this beach as very clean and nice beach with a tavern. You can do watersports
and play volleyball. One end of this beach is nude and they other
one is textile. Agrari has a strong nudist end, despite developments.
(There appeared to be some apartments right by the nudist end of the beach
- worth exploring?) Note that the boatmen take a break from about 1
to 4 - unless you come back by lunchtime, you are stuck till 4 o'clock. But
it is a good place to be stuck! You have to go to the far end of the
beach (also the west end) This beach seems to be the latest meeting point
for the gays, although there are mixed couples, too. The beach
isn't busy, you can get sunbeds and umbrellas and you have an nice view on
the high rocks surrounding the bay. My correspondent's rating: 70 %.
In May 2000 the very end opposite the
taverna was 70% nude, men/gays 70%, women/lesbians 30%. My contributor
found the atmosphere not very relaxed, some people go there to have a look,
and the boat from Mykonos Town arrives at that end. In September 2000
Agrari had no gay community.
A report from August 2000 found no
sign of nudism and no obvious place for it. This may have been a high
season blip, though. A report from June 2001 said Agrari beach had
nude persons on both ends. Contrary to other reports It didn't seem to have
the gay character you find on the other beaches. On the west half there were
very few people, even though nearly the whole beach had sunchairs. I guess
the were around 20 people on the west end, 50% of them naked. On the east
end the nude people occupied only the most eastern part. Here there
were around 10 naked people.
Contributors who visited during June-July 2004 found Agrari a
delightful beach. As with many beaches on the island, there is a bamboo
barrier to the north of the sunbed area - this is vital on the days the
Meltemi wind blows from the north as it allows you to lie in the sunbeds
with sensible wind blowing over you. without the bamboo, it would be
impossible. the sand is coarse meaning it doesn't blow in such
circumstances. The extreme western end of the beach appears to be
"clothing optional" and is in front of the "Sunrise Hotel" which collects
the money €3-50 for each sunbed under free bamboo umbrellas. There were
always some people with no clothes on and those with clothes (mainly
Italians and local Greeks) did not seem to object in any way, giving a
great feeling of freedom on the beach. I suspect that when the main influx
from Athens and Italy arrives the number of nudists will fall, not because
of pressure but because one might feel more uncomfortable.
All in all a good beach to try even in season - get there early, get your
clothes off and everyone seems to join in eventually!!
Panormos
See Panormos on Google Maps
In May 2000 the end opposite to the
taverna was 100% nude, mainly couples aged 30s to 50s, very uncrowded, very
relaxed atmosphere. The side closer to the taverna is mainly textile, only
few brave nudists. If the wind is blowing, forget about it or go on
the rocks after the end of the beach where there are some secluded spots.
Reports suggest that this is
now one of the "in" beaches for nudism.
A report from early August 2002 says it's a beautiful beach, easy to
reach, great scenery and clean water, and not too crowded, especially in
the area towards the end, away from the taverna. Textile in the beginning
of the beach (lots of topless), 95% naked at the end: couples aged 30-40
(gay and straight), also single men and some women (never more than 20
people overall). Very relaxing, made my contributor's girlfriend go nude
for the first time with enthusiasm! However, some gawkers walk by,
mainly Greek and Italians, but the beach is overall quiet and large enough
to avoid close stares.
A report from early October 2004 described this as another windswept
haven for naturists. A mix of Greek, French, German, Scandinavians,
British, Americans all with the same thing on their minds - enjoy the
natural beauty of the area. Weekends about 75% nude, weekdays 100% for
most of the time. As it was virtually the end of the season my contributor
and his wife were the only ones on the beach from 10:00 till about 12:30
when another couple turned up at the other end of the beach - it was still
100% nude!! Absolutely no hassle at all and not an eyelid batted even at
the weekend. A July 2005 report describes Panormos as the only good
nudist beach found on Mykonos. In the nudist area it was 50/50
textile/nude, but only 6-7 nude couples on the nude part of the beach. The
part close to the cool but expensive taverna is textile. And a
report from July 2007 says that the road to the beach has now been
tarmaced.

Agia Sostis
See Ag Sostis on Google Maps
The Captain hears that a few kilometres past Panormos lays Sostis
beach, a very beautiful beach. About
half the people there were nude, mostly at the end towards the rock.
My contributor thinks it a superb beach and rates it 9 out of 10.
Apparently for the people
who are in the know about Mykonos, the real Mykonos-set. No umbrellas but
apparently lots of watersports. You will need a car to get there, the Captain
understands there is no bus or boat service.
A report from August 2003 says that at that time - peak season - it was
the only one of the main beaches with any nudists.
A report from early October 2004 describes Sostis as an excellent sandy
beach although very windy due to the Meltemi. The beach was 100% nude for
most of the week (there were only 6 people on the beach - 1-8 October
2004), the only exception was on the Saturday and Sunday when the local
Greek inhabitants visited. This was then down to approx 50% nude. Although
it was a steep descent to the beach it was well worthwhile. Good for
swimming once clear of the pebbles at the waters-edge. No hassle at all
from anyone. Very pleasing to be able to go nude without offending anyone.
Some contributors recommend Kikis taverna at Ag Sostis - not to be
missed.
Paranga
See Paranga on Google Maps
A sandy beach between
two headlands about 5km from Mykonos town, sounds worth noting. This is
the beach between Plati Yialos and Paradise, and one end is at least 50%
nudist and is to be highly recommended. It is possible to walk to Paraga
from Plati Yialos over the cliffs, it is about 10 mins along the Plati Yialos
beach, then 15 minutes over the cliffs. However note that there are two beaches
separated by a narrow peninsula of sand - avoid the near one, the far one
is the main beach. Beach sandy, some rocks in water, but many places where
you can enter over sand. A report from August 1999 states that
one end was completely nude, with mostly older men and some women. A
report from June 2000 says there were nudists on the west end, mostly couples
about 30-50 years old, some gays, a very quiet beach, towards the taverna the beach
is CO., very clear water..., my correspondent's rating: 80%. A report
from September 2000 describes quite a few nude people scattered among the
textiles.

A June 2001 report describes about
20% of beach at western end is nude but surprisingly there is a good mix of
nudes amongst the clothed all along the beach. Does not seem to be a problem,
makes one curious to see people in costumes themselves, when they don't seem
to be bothered by nudists around them. If there were gays they were
discreet. My correspondent rates this as better than Paradise or Super.
Relaxed, tolerant, quiet. Very clean, and an easy walk from Plati Yialos.
Has very clean toilets and very good
eating facilities. The beach over the last three years that my contributor
and his wife have been going has gradually had a reduced attraction to gay
persons. It is mainly used now by couples with some families also. The beach
is of mixed textile and nude, the predominance of nude from halfway along
the beach although it doesn't seem to matter where you sit. Easy access into
the sea which is very clear. Also served by a boat service from neighbouring
villages and beaches. Has many loungers and umbrellas reasonably priced.
In June 2001 there was a clear nudist west end.
A report from early August 2003 said only 10% of the people were were
nude. The beach gets very crowded from 13:00 hrs onwards and is now
very popular with tourists and locals.
A report from September 2003 says the beach was very busy with a
mixture of textiles and naturists. Naturists mainly at one end of beach
but there was also a good mixture in several parts of the beach. Sunbeds
and brollies were packed in very close together, Taverna and bars at rear
of beach with very loud music at bar most of the day. Two sunbeds and one
brolly cost 5 Euros per day or afternoon.
A report from the 2002 summer season says it's not too far away from
town (some 20 minutes by car), its not too crowded (unless during weekends
of August), it has a certain nude part (the right one), and for more
privacy one can use the next small cove on the right.
The nice thing is that its reachable even by bus (there is one going
directly to Paranga, but you can also use the one to Paradise and walk 10
minutes to the right from there)
This is one of the best beaches in Mykonos, with very nice visitors, a
mix of straight and gay, young and older, families... and nudism is never
a problem. In 2003 the Barba Yannis self service restaurant (cheap and
good) was turned into an extremely expensive trendy beach bar Kuala.
Excellent food at Tasos, cheap drinks, sandwiches and fruits at the
camping store.
A report from June 2004 described Paranga as a little crowded, with a
charming mixture of textiles and nudes. Usually textiles use one part of
the beach, and nudes the other. Here it was somewhat mixed. The reason for
this is that partly because the young people using the beach, and the fact
that only the centre of the beach is comfortable to take a swim on.
One report from September 2004 described Paranga as a beautiful beach
with about 30-40 nudes - mostly mixed couples and few male gay couples and
a few single gay men. The water was beautiful and clean. The tavernas at
the opposite end had great food and some overpriced drinks. Barefoot
reporters spent about
6 hours or so in a fantastic atmosphere enjoying every bit of Paranga.
Except for August Paranga hosts a beautiful spot for nudes every single
day.
In July 2005 Paranga beach had a very strong nudist section. Like other
beaches in Mykonos the further right you go as you face the water the less
clothing people wear. At Paranga the right third of the beach was 95% nude
in June 2005 and 80% nude in June of 2004. No one made a
big deal of it, in fact it was laid back and relaxing. Another
report said it was only 1% nude in July 2005, so not somewhere for the
shy! Yet another 2005 visitor said there were nudists at both ends.
And a regular visitor who most recently enjoyed Paranga in June
2007, said that this beach is by the far the best naturist-friendly beach
on the island.
Unfortunately, like many established naturist beaches, it is prone to a
textile invasion from late July through August, especially at weekends.
One reporter found just 5 nude people there during late July 2007.
Kalo Livadi
Large area for textiles, but at the far West end plenty of room for
nudists. The nudist end is not widely known (at least not before it
appeared on this site) so a relatively small number of nudists were
there. A Barefpooter who visited in 2006 was angry to have to pay 5 euros
for a very small bottle of beer at the taverna.
Lia
This beach is about 14km from Mykonos town towards the East of
the island. The road is clearly signposted and you now drive past the Fish
Taverna on a newly built road/track. You can park the car in the car
parking area and then you are on the beach. There are no facilities on the
beach but it is good coarse sand. The beach shelves steeply to deep water,
only swim if you are a good swimmer. During my contributors' visit to Lia
Beach, they were the only ones on it from about 09:30 till about 15:00
when a party of four turned up. They saw they were naked and immediately
stripped off too. Very isolated and secluded amongst the rocks, a perfect
haven for naturists. 100% naturism on weekdays.
Agrari
The Captain would welcome up to date reports on this beach. The
most recent report I have dates from July 1997, when it was an
"unexpected" 80% clothed, although at the far end of the beach, nude was
the norm. The secluded cove at the north end had 20 or so people and an
alarming 50% were clothed.
Another correspondent visited Mykonos in
1993. Their favourite beach was Agrari. No problems with nudism there and
the taverna made wonderful lunches.
Fokos
If you have rented a bike or a car and wish for an
absolutely peaceful scenery, you can reach Fokos beach, which is mainly
used by couples. The beach beautiful, but shingle. My correspondent visited during
June 2001. 100% nude during weekdays, on Saturday it was nude in the morning
and 90% textile in the afternoon, because of many locals spending the week
end. In the year 2000, it was normally a nudist paradise, this year
a new taverna has started and advertises how to reach the beach. This
brings some textiles there. However in September 2001 the beach
was 50% nude and was highly rated because it was so peaceful. It sounds like one
of those beaches where the early arrivals set the trend. However
beware of going there if Meltemi is blowing! There are also reports of tar
on the beach, so be careful.
Tsangari
A contributor found this beach in the last week of August 2003 when in
Mykonos on day trip and desperate to find somewhere for a nude swim after
Elia became swamped by textiles mid afternoon. They drove east to Lia
which had good reports previously but beach crowded and exclusively
textile so followed part unmade part made road further east to next bay
shown on the map as Tsangari. Parked 4WD 200ft or so above a grey shingle
beach and walked down along reasonably well trodden path through field.
Small(ish) beach with nice swimming. Approx 200ft long. At 4pm when they
arrived 2 nude couples and nude male/textile female couple on beach only.
2 single males arrived later. Most seem to have walked round rocks from
Lia although at least one other couple in car. Several people
snorkelled. No facilities on beach. Several villas overlooking beach
under construction or already completed. Get there quickly if you want
peace and quiet on overcrowded Mykonos.
This may be the same beach another contributor has old me about.
This tiny, beautiful beach is located right next to Lia, about a 10 minute
walk through a field of dry weed and rocks. It is worth it. Lia has become
a very nouveau-riche, upper middle class Greek beach, too many people and
definitely no longer the secluded, hard-to-reach one it used to be. August
2003 was terrible. Not one person nude here and few topless. The "next to
Lia" beach is very secluded, few take the trek down and maximum of 10
people on the beach during peak hours. Many days, it is only a couple at
best and they are certainly nude. Sandy beach with nice cliff/rock
formation on the sides.
A Barefooter who visited in September 2005 described it as a delightful
beach, naturally sheltered from the wind. Mostly nude towards the east
end, some textiles on the west end where the path from the textile beach
comes around. You can park up the on the dirt road and walk down. It is
easier than it looks to get down. Clean water, good atmosphere. Mostly
couples straight and gay. It is quite a trek from Mykonos town on a
scooter and the road to and from Chora can be exposed to the wind.
Frangia
According to a report from August 2004, if you go on following the
coast past Tsangari (the footpath is not clearly marked, just follow the
coast) you will arrive to a larger sandy beach, 400m long, almost desert,
with only a few brave naturists (brave for having reached the beach, not
for being nude!). My contributor rated this beach 100%. A deserted
naturist beach in Mykonos in August!!!
